Brexit.  Yes or No? Of course, I don’t know anything. If I did, I’d bet the right way and be on a plane to the Bahamas to buy a second home. I’m willing to bet that Brexit happens.

As a trader, I am short-term neutral to long-term short.  I’m taking this trade or trades because the conventional wisdom is that Brexit can’t happen, that it shouldn’t happen, etc. In the stock market you learn that when everyone is long something, it’s time to get short. Play for the outlier, not the conventional wisdom.

What is overlooked here is the voice of the people in Britain who are faced daily with an onslaught of Muslims who seek to change their culture and their very way of life.  Has the European Union really worked for the British?  Is the average British citizen brave enough to state publicly that it hasn’t and why?

The question really is whether or not the Muslim migrants have enough power to vote in favor of staying with the European Union, thereby swaying the outcome in their favor. That is an open question.  Once the floodgates allow enough people of a distinctly different culture in, the culture of the host country is forever changed.  I, for one, am praying that the scales haven’t been tipped so far.  It is also a question of the interests of the people who control the money, versus the interests of the populace.   Money vs. people. For the longest time here in the United States, the moneyed interests have won, hence we have a political class that completely ignores the will of the people in furtherance of its own ends.

It will be interesting to see how things play out.  If Britain no longer controls her own destiny, then there will really be only five countries left to defend Western civilization and the Judeo- Christian way of life: The United States, Canada, Israel, Australia and New Zealand.

We shall see.  Praying tonight for Britain.  May God be with her.

Gun Control

Have you ever noticed that the people who are the most ardent supporters of gun control have either Secret Service protection, their own specially-dedicated police force or their own private security to keep them safe?

Talk to any policeman or woman and he or she will say, “We cannot be everywhere all the time.” Given that scenario, what are people supposed to do to protect themselves?

I don’t buy the liberal fantasy that you can round up all the guns everywhere. No matter what laws are in force, the criminal element will still have guns. You may be able to force legal gun owners to give up their guns–through fines and threats of jail time–, but criminals are in the business of breaking laws. Accordingly, they will still have guns, and guns–much like drugs are today–will be sold to the highest bidder in a huge black market.

If you want to solve the problem of gun violence in schools overnight, you must take down those  “gun free zone stickers” and install metal detectors and station armed and plain clothes security guards in the schools. We have them everywhere else: airports, train stations, corporate headquarters. Planes have air marshals.  Security is a modern fact of life.

When I was staying in Colombia, the hotel I stayed in had armed security and security cameras. My drivers for the most part were either retired detectives or retired military officers. When we drove to a mall, our car was routinely sniffed by a bomb sniffing dog.  Far from being scared, I grew accustomed to these security measures and saw them as welcome additions. In fact, if there was a bombing in Bogota, the army would come and surround the hotel with a ring of protections, making it the safest place in the city.

Thoughts on September 11

As we all think back to the morning of September 11, 2001, mourning those whom we lost that day as well as those whom we have lost in other terror attacks, let us not forget that whether we like it or not and whether our leaders have the courage to admit it to us or not, we are at war with radical Islam and radical Islam is at war with us. We did not initiate this conflict. While we seek peace, we live in a world where jihadists who have made clear their intentions seek to impose a caliphate upon the entire world. Therefore, let us not shirk from the duty of defending ourselves, our Constitution and Judaeo-Christian way of life.  To quote George W. Bush, whose words that day stand after any attack: “Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward, and freedom will be defended.”

Herewith one of my favorite passages from the Bible which comes from King James Version, Ephesians 6:

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints[.]

Though we mourn, we must remain vigilant, ready to answer the Lord’s call.

Iran Nuclear Deal

Lord hear our prayers!

Tomorrow, as our leaders gather in Washington, D. C.

to deliberate over the shame known as Iran nuclear deal,

we humbly ask that you instruct them to do what is right:

to do what is right for Israel, to do what is right for America,

to do what is right for the free world, for all who love liberty.

Bestow sight upon the blind, humility upon the vain,

reason upon the irresolute, wisdom upon the imprudent.

Unite us as one people against our common enemy:

the henchmen of tyranny, spreaders of slavery, suffering,

vile defilers of our Christian faith.

Lord, have mercy upon us!

Know this rampaging evil engulfing the whole world

reflects not who we desire to be, reflects not Christ’s teachings.

Foolish, we freely admit we have not acted soon enough,

not comprehending the full fruits of the error of our ways,

the same lesson unlearned in the Garden.

We who love You—we who know Your son Jesus died on the cross

that we might have eternal life—

we ask for Your blessing, Your guidance in this—our darkest hour.

Steel us anew that we might hone the sword of Your wrath to defeat our foe.

May we raise the cross once again in glory!

In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
